When we (or the bank, actually) purchased our home almost three years ago, the basement was the biggest selling point for us. Nothing about the house is fancy, and the basement is mostly one big open room. We love having a big ol’ room for the kids to play in, with space for grown up seating and my office space, too.
One thing I do not love about the basement, though, is that it houses the litter box for Allie cat. She’s an indoor cat and we all know litter boxes are the stinkiest. It’s a bummer when we have folks over and despite cleaning out the box I worry that the scent still lingers.
We’re not typically people who put extra money into unnecessary goodies for animals, but I was definitely interested in trying a tool that could help us keep this sweet area of our home more clean and fresh.
The Litter Genie locks in litter and odor so you’re not making umpteen trips to the trash a day. You just scoop the litter, drop into the Litter Genie, and pull the handle to lock in the waste. You can watch a full demo video here.
BENEFITS of the Litter Genie
- Convenient to use and really does hide the odors.
- Small and compact and doesn’t take up a lot of extra space.
- Comes with refill bag, scoop, and holder.
- Scoop holder attaches right to the container.
- Really locks in odors for about two weeks for one cat.
And while we’re talking smells, I also recommend using a more natural wood litter verses the traditional rocky kind of litter. I just think it helps with the odor in general and is more “green” and environmentally friendly.
While I was a little bit leery of the refill bags, I think we’re actually cutting down on plastic bag use because we’re not daily using trash bags to empty her litter.
We snagged our Litter Genie right at Target in the pet section, and you can get $3 OFF using this coupon at Target. You can also follow the Litter Genie folks on Facebook + Twitter to stay in the loop on future promos and coupons.
We give the genie two thumbs up for making a cleaner space for all of us, for all the important times we spend in this space: play time, work time, friends-hanging-out-time.
