I am super grateful for the incredible Goal Setting series from Lara Casey. It goes deep and asks the hard questions for the purpose of setting meatier, more meaningful goals that really matter.
In Part 3 of the series, Lara challenged readers to make a list of what they are saying NO to for 2014, and what they are saying YES to this year. I’ve already shared my word for 2014 with you. Today, I’m sharing my YESes with you, even though it feels awfully vulnerable.
What I’m Saying Yes to in 2014
To my children and to family. More yeses for them. Playing with them, reading to them, looking them in the eye, ENGAGING them. I’m saying YES to being present in their lives. NOT being supermom, not being the PTA mom that I’m not, not playing in to false guilt or an idolized dream mom I’m supposed to live up to, but to finding ways to be really present in their lives and still be completely me.
To community. More open house policy. More open doors. More game nights. More connection with teens and students in our home. More connection with any people in our home. More coffee dates with friends. More late night/after-kids-go-to-bed coffee or tea at the kitchen table, dreaming, encouraging, hoping, sharing, speaking-life times together. This is good and we were made to walk together.
To health. Christmas Day I started an experiment of the gluten-free variety. After suffering for a decade and a half with chronic stomach problems, I thought this was worth a shot. I don’t have the answers, but I’m trusting and making steps for a healthier 2014. More fruits. More vegetables. More walking. More fresh air. More moving and sweating. More cooking real food.
To creating. I love creating and designing. Making more and more beautiful art. This is my heart, and God’s, too, I believe. He is the creator and we are made in his image. I’ll not say no to making art and creating more and more beauty as long as the Lord allows me to use it to His glory.
To writing. Creating good content and crafting space to write the way I was born to write. I believe God’s gifted me in this way. I believe He’s used my words to encourage others. It is life giving to me, honoring to the Lord, and uplifting to others. This is a good gift from the Lord. I will write because I have been given a gift. I will write because His healing comes through the words.
To Jesus. He has my yes. Above all else, above any goal I could conjur up or dream I could think up, I say yes to Jesus for 2014. I say yes to His word, to more of it. To more prayer. Yes for ALL the ways He wants me to say yes. For all the ways He longs to work in and through me, even if I don’t know what they are, even if they are scary, I give Him my yes.
I would love to know what you are saying yes to in 2014. Leave some thoughts in the comments and let’s encourage one another on towards our best 2014.
“There is great potential hiding in your fear.” Lara Casey
I’ll be sharing more of my heart on the new year throughout the week, so stop back in for that, too.
To God’s greatness in us in 2014,
