Nancy Leigh DeMoss wrote a book entitled Lies Women Believe: And the Truth that Sets Them Free. Today I’d like to share some of these lies and more importantly, the truth. Our identity in Christ is shaken when we let lies from the enemy creep in. He wants us to believe that we are not loved, not worthy, not powerful, and not important. But we know that God says different. Way different.
THE LIE //God is a lot like your father. If you’ve experienced an abusive or absent father, you might believe that God responds like the father you grew up with.
TRUTH // We believe our heavenly father defines the concept of fatherhood, not our earthly fathers. God is a good father, who loves his children dearly is worthy of our trust!
THE LIE // We struggle with self-image and often believe we are worthless.
TRUTH // God values and loves you. God cares enough about your soul that He gave His son for you.
THE LIE // We believe lies about sin when we live as though we can’t break free from the sins we continually struggle with, and when we believe that God can’t forgive us for these sins.
TRUTH // God’s grace is all about offering us freedom and forgiveness from our sins. This is why He gave His son to die on the cross for us.
THE LIE // We believe we are so busy there just isn’t time for everything. We end up cutting away those things that are easiest for us to pass over, which often ends up being our relationship with God.
TRUTH // Apart from a regular, vital connection and dependance on God, we cannot be all that God designed us to be. We need a holy desperation for God that reflects our need for Him each moment of every day.
THE LIE // We often blame our circumstances and our past for the difficulties we face. In doing so, we fall prey to the lie that if our circumstances were different, our lives would be different.
TRUTH // We live in a fallen, broken, messed up world. There are no perfect circumstances this side of heaven. The important thing is not our circumstances themselves, but how we respond to them by the power of God’s spirit within us.
If any of these lies resonates with you today, if you’ve been believing any of them, pray that the Holy Spirit will help you believe only what is true. And then trust that He will.
He made you. He loves you. He believes in you.
