Yesterday marked 1 year.
One year without this amazing guy in our lives.
And today? Today would have been his 15th birthday. And it hurts so bitterly that he cannot celebrate it.
For those who followed here a year ago and learned about the tragedy and prayed, today I ask you to pray again. To pray more. To lift up his hurting family as they remember and grieve and celebrate and hurt and walk forward.
Following Marc’s funeral a year ago, I typed out this plea:
Truly, in the wake of tragedy and devastation, I feel more confident than ever before that our time here on this earth is to be spent lavishly loving others in the name of Jesus, the name above every other name.
Waste no time on petty arguments or long grudges.
Urgently share the love of Christ, the hope of Christ, with your family, neighbors, and friends.
We are not meant for this world, friends. [on blessings + grief, july 2012]
And just as I reflected then, I am reminded again today that this world and this life are so temporary.
And in light of that, we live different.
In light of that, we live better.
Compete well for the faith and lay hold of that eternal life you were called for and made your good confession for in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12 [NET]
In Christ, earthly death is not the end.
And that is good news, friends.
For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. 1 Corinthians 15:56-58 [NLT, emphasis mine]
