We’ve talked about this brave thing a lot. We’ve talked about pushing beyond ourselves, beyond our own desires for comfort and safety, to press into a hurting world. And we’ve talked about how much easier it is to forget and push the hurt away and just. stay. safe.
In your fear, or doubt, or indifference, if you want to stay safe and comfortable, please, do not read these books. Do not open their pages or open your heart to the hurt they’ll bring, the hurt the rest of the world walks in every day. Don’t take the chance that your life might get messy. Don’t venture onto the rocky terrain that will turn your comfort upside down.
But if, deep down, you know there’s more to this story, you know you can’t close your eyes and shut up your ears and pretend the world isn’t crying out for hope, then I recommend you take a step of faith, step out, start reading, and start praying. Any of these books is a book you SHOULD read… if you think you might consider breaking out of comfortable and living life brave.

Timothy Keller // Generous Justice: How God’s Grace Makes Us Just
“If a person has grasped the meaning of God’s grace in his heart, he will do justice. If he doesn’t live justly, then he may say with his lips that he is grateful for God’s grace, but in his heart he is far from him. If he doesn’t care about the poor, it reveals that at best he doesn’t understand the grace he has experienced, and at worst he has not really encountered the saving mercy of God. Grace should make you just.” Timothy Keller // Generous Justice
