Friends, it’s Friday night. Good Friday night. After getting the kids tucked in bed, I was doing a little internet research for the adoption education required for our homestudy. You know how the internet sometimes (ok, all the time?) becomes a black hole of information? You start at point A, and a few miliseconds later, you’ve been sucked into internet cyberspace, completely derailed from your original mission, and lost in home decorating boards on Pinterest. You know how that happens?
Tonight that sort of happened. Although I didn’t go so far as to be sucked into the vacuum of Pinterest, I was swayed from my mission at Point A to a new focus at Point B. In the process of researching online adoption education, I wound up on the website of Summit 9, an upcoming conference hosted in Nashville by the Christian Alliance for Orphans that “inspires, equips and connects for adoption, foster care and global orphan ministry.”
“Oh my gosh, I wish I could go to this,” said I to the hubby.
“I wonder if they work with bloggers at all.” More thinking out loud. (Hubby gets this a lot, poor guy.)
And I kid you not, before I even had to click a thing, the next slide showed this:
A blogger contest!? “I’m so entering.”
Oh, and minor detail, the contest ends today. Like March 29th. Coincidence? I think not.
Here are some of the many reasons I really, really, really want to go Summit 9:
1) As my sweet readers, friends, & Mercy Ink followers know, our little family just announced our decision to adopt in the past few weeks. I wrote about it in the Post I Waited 7 Years to Write, and shared more specifics in this post. So now, more than ever, this is a personal thing. Our family is adopting. We have so much to learn and so many people to learn from. I can only imagine how Summit9 might strengthen our family as we begin our adoption journey.
2) Even though we just announced our decision to adopt, anyone who knows me knows that my heart and passion is for the least of these and the fatherless. Over the past year, this blog has morphed into a place that is highly focused on orphan advocacy. I believe the Lord has given me a platform and voice to speak. And for that reason, I believe I am responsible to learn, grow, and be educated in this area. I know Summit9 will provide an incredible wealth of knowledge as well as opportunities to network with other like-minded families, advocates, and professionals. I would love to bring that network back here to Mercy Ink for all of us to continue journeying and growing together.
3) Ummm. This guy.
Author of a little book called Radical.
Need we say more?
Enter Exhibit A. A real tweet from 9 hours ago. Like, 8.5 hours before I knew anything about this conference or contest:

Oh friends, these are just the tip of the iceberg of reasons I wish, hope, and pray I could be a part of this event.
Summit9, thanks for “hearing” me out and reading my plea!
