Good morning, friends!
It’s time for another Home Story… real people, real life, and real homes. Catch up all Home Stories here.
Today, please welcome KENDRA!!! I’ll let her introduce herself ;)
Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.
I will have been married to my wonderful hubby Jason, 4 years this month. We met when he moved to Ohio for a job. I will be sharing the full story of how we met, on the 30th of this month (our anniversary)
Q. Where do you blog? What do you blog about?
I blog at a Proverbs 31 Wife, and I blog about life as a wife. I chose the name A Proverbs 31 Wife, because the woman in proverbs 31, is an example for all wives. I blog about marriage, cooking, housekeeping, sewing and crafts. Sometimes I even share my favorite ways to save money.
Q. What does the word home mean to you?
A place where there is family. Usually, it’s loud and chaotic, but I love it. Ultimately though, I think home, is when Hubby comes home from work and holds me in his arms.
Q. Tell us about some if the places you’ve lived in the past.
The summer I turned 10, my parents and grandparents traded houses, and we lived on the big farm. Basically I grew up on the farm and I have country blood all the way through me.
Once the hubs and I got married, living in the country wasn’t in the budget, so we rented a little duplex in town. The only real good thing about living there, is we had some amazing neighbors.
Q. Where do you call home now?
After renting for a year, we decided it would be in our best financial interests to buy a house rather than continue renting. Again we couldn’t afford a place in the country, so we still live in town. The nice thing about where we live, is again we have lovely neighbors and it’s a quiet neighborhood. But we can actually walk to several restaurants, the bank, and grocery store.
Q. What are some things you do to create a home for your family?
I sew and try to decorate in a livable fashion. Even though I love the clean look of Swedish decor, my husband is a landscaper and I want a home where he can relax, with out a wife worrying about stains and things no longer looking white.
Q. If walls could talk yours would say…
In all honesty, I think they would say “ouch!” Not something I am proud of but it shows how God can work in our lives. We didn’t exactly have an easy time of it the first couple years and there was a lot of yelling and throwing of things. We have been growing and the Lord has been working. The last 2 years have been so much better, as we are growing and learning to work together as a team.
Q. What or who inspires you?
Nature is often the best inspiration for myself and hubby. We love to take walks, look at the stars, and watch storms roll in.
Q. What is your favorite space in your home and why?
While I spend the most time in the office/craft room, I think my favorite part is the kitchen. It’s small but it can crank out some yummy food!
Q. What are some of your favorite things in your home?
The book case that hubby made me is truly amazing. We both love to read and I brought a ton of books with me when we got married. I wanted this beautiful bookcase that I found at Sam’s Club but it was over $1000 and out of the option. So hubby made me this lovely thing for little more than the cost of stain and finish and the paver bond.
Also, the quilt that is on our bed was made by hubby’s grandma and it is perfect for our home.
We would most likely pay off our mortgage. And if there were some left over we would add it to our dream home fund.
Q. What do you value most about your home?
It’s ours. (mostly) We can make the repairs and do the up-keep, and if I want to paint, I don’t have to ask permission.
Q. How would you describe your style in regards to decorating?
Comfortable :) The color palate is earth tone colors. Beige, coco, green. The kitchen is accented with wine colors, the living room and bedrooms with reds, and the bathroom with sea foam green and sky blue. Nothing really matches, because everything is second hand. But I feel every thing complements each other nicely.
Q. Where do you go for home decorating inspiration?
Still a big fan of Better Homes and Gardens, but Pinterest is also a big contributer.
Q. What do you hope your children will remember from growing up at home? What kind of environment do you aim to create?
While we don’t have children yet, my dream is that they will remember home as fun. That they can look back on their childhood and smile.
