Welcome friends. I am feeling so refreshed as I begin this journey of blogging at www.MercyINKblog.com
If you are a previous Summit St Joy follower, you may be asking, why the switch?
Well, I have several reasons why I decided to change the blog name, and also switch gears slightly on the direction.
For one, I was blogging super casually at www.Confidentofthis.com about faith and family since 2006. SummitStJoy was then born out of my desire to blog about homemaking and budget decorating. I felt a bit splintered between the two, like I couldn’t write about my faith on SSJ and should keep it only about house-y things.
But then I came to the conclusion that that was a silly idea.
Homemaking, for me, is all about creating peaceful spaces for my family. Providing a sanctuary for them to grow and learn and find rest. So really, even though thrift store shopping may appear to have absolutely nothing to do with Jesus, upon deeper investigation, it really is all connected for me.
Why not keep the same blog name and just redirect the focus?
I sort of felt like I was trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, you know? I just wanted a fresh start.
And why mercyINK?
In 2011 I opened my etsy shop (formally the SummitSt Shop) of digital artwork with a focus on Christian subway art. That soon turned into a small graphic design business, mercyINK designs by Lauren Mills, designing logos, business cards, and websites for local businesses.
And with all these different irons in the fire, that whole splintered thing was happening big time.
From a marketing perspective, I was confusing myself with all the different stuff I had going on, so I’m sure anyone who was following along was confused, too! Recently, a local friend mentioned that she was referring a new business to me for logo design, but she couldn’t remember which website to send them, too. Sheesh!
Plus, I just didn’t feel like keeping the faith journey stuff and the homemaking stuff separate.
It was just time to simplify. To focus.
So, welcome to mercyINK | the blog. All the Summit St Joy content and Confident of This content are now in one place, with the same mission: mercyINK is a Christian lifestyle blog inspiring women in creative homemaking, intentional parenting, and authentic living.
And for those who previously followed at www.SummitStreetJoy.com, thanks so much for your patience during this transition to wordpress & mercyINK (it took up WAY more time than I expected!). Regular blogging will now resume, thank goodness! I hope you’ll keep walking with me.
