Imagine, for a moment, a life without smiles.
Do smiles not convey the very joy of our hearts? Our lives? The sweetest, most tender moments? The means by which we communicate happiness to friends and strangers alike?
Mother Teresa said that “Everytime you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.”
And if you could not give that gift? Would your heart not just ache within you? Would it not be as though you were deaf or blind, in a sense, unable to experience the depth of this beautiful, universal method of communicating your gladness?
You know I’m a sucker for a good cause. Not just any ol’ cause, though I don’t doubt they’re all doing good things.
Have you heard of Operation Smile? Man, they are changing lives. Their mission?
“We believe that all children deserve to live their lives with dignity. And for those suffering from cleft lip, cleft palate or other facial deformities, dignity begins with a smile.”
In places of the world where children are shunned and rejected by families, friends, and society at large, Operation Smile enters in to provide effective reconstructive surgery for children born with facial deformities.
“If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love. Don’t be surly at home, then go out in the street and start grinning ‘Good morning’ at total strangers.” – Maya Angelou
According to OperationSmile, a child is born with a cleft every three minutes. And that cleft — not only does it often prohibit the child’s ability to smile (as if that is not tragic enough), but also, in many cases, children are unable to eat, speak, & socialize.
As a business-minded kind of gal, I am also a sucker for businesses and brands that partner with life-changing causes.
Well, I recently learned about a super creative, smart business that’s partnering with OperationSmile.
This one’s perfect for all those college-going folks out there. Tis the season for graduation, so I’m sure we all know someone who is headed for college in the fall.
CampusBookRentals.com has been renting textbooks to students since 2007.
Umm, not sure about you, but this gal could have used a company like this in my college days! Do you know how outrageous textbook costs are!? Like hundreds of stinkin dollars, and you do it again every semester. It’s a little ridiculous. Take this Child Psychology textbook for example:
Do you see the price of the book new in red? $149?
Now, check out the price to rent the book from CampusBookRentals.com:
Crazy, huh? AND that rental price includes FREE shipping, both ways.
Renting from CampusBookRentals.com, you will:
- save 40-90% off of bookstore prices
- be able to highlight in textbooks
- choose from flexible renting periods
- earn referral credit for sharing with friends
- awesome customer service & super fun company :)
Ok, so back to that smiling thing: The biggest bonus of using CampusBookRentals is that a donation is made to OperationSmile with every textbook that’s rented from CampusBookRentals.com!
I LOVE that!
Save money and be more economical by renting instead of buying. And some of that money goes to good, life changing work.
Here’s what CampusBookRentals say about their partnership with OperationSmile:
“The long term improvement in quality of life for the children that receive these surgeries is almost incomprehensible. We have committed to donating enough money to cover a minimum of 1,000 life changing surgeries. We hope to beat that number, but it’s a significant commitment. Like Big!”
Spend less. Give more.
So, please take a quick second to share with all the college bound folks in your life.
You can use the share buttons following the post to tweet, FB, google+, etc. Those students about to embark on a new season of life themselves, can be a part of a bigger purpose of transforming lives, simply by renting a textbook!
Win, win, win!
