Good morning, Friends.
For those of you who may visit frequently, sorry about the issues with the formatting on this site. The transition to wordpress continues… I love all that you can do with wordpress, but the learning curve is steep when you want to change stuff up and make it your own. Getting there! Thanks for your patience, and for continuing to read, despite the messed up formatting stuff :)
On this Father’s Day, I hope you are able to spend the day celebrating a father in your life.
Maybe it’s your husband, for the dad he is to your kids. Maybe it’s your own dad. Maybe it’s someone else without the official title of “father” who has been there for you.
Days like today can be hard for people, for a host of different reasons. If you’ve lost your dad, or if you have a broken relationship with your dad and don’t much feel like celebrating, I pray you would come to your Heavenly Father today.
As we continue to read on in Reflections for Ragamuffins, there is probably no greater theme in Mannings writings than the love of our Heavenly, Abba Father.
I love this picture Manning gives of a Father’s love,
“Imagine a little boy trying to help his father with some household work or making his mother a gift. The help may be nothing more than getting in the way, and the gift may be totally useless, but the love behind it is simple and pure…
… I am sure it is this way between our Abba and us. At the deepest, simplest levels, we just want each other to be happy, to be pleased. Our sincere desire counts far more than any specific success or failure. Thus when we try to pray and cannot, or when we fail in a sincere attempt to be compassionate, God touches us tenderly in return” (Reflections for Ragamuffins, p. 39).
Though sometimes painfully difficult to comprehend in light of our relationship with our earthly father, when we can come before the Father with all our ragamuffin, messed up selves, we find nothing less than total love and complete acceptance.
Receive that radical love today, friend.
