So life as of late has been crazy. I mean CRAZY.
On April 1-2, we had our 6th Village Closet sale. We moved to a new location, a local elementary school, and apparently people liked that. Hundreds of folks came out on Friday night, and while we anticipated a bit of a rush and had added an additional check out this time around to prepare for it, we got totally slammed. The wait to checkout was a whopping 1.5 hours. That was crazy. Village Closet weekend is always nuts, and while I’ll love it, it’s totally exhausting in every way.
Meanwhile, we were/are in the process of house buying. And that has been all sorts of crazy. We went from not even thinking we could ever buy, to finding out we could, to putting an offer on a house… all in less than a week’s time. Nutty.
Oh, and that week’s time was over 60 days ago now. The process that followed the signing the contract, that was not quick. No. It has been sooooo slow. We hit every road block imaginable. Still workin’ on it. More on that later. I hope to report good news in the next few weeks :)
I also returned to work the week of the 11th. Only to end up staying home most of the week with my puking 2 year old, and then puking husband. Crazy.
So I know everyone’s busy and crazy. But just lately the stress has been taken to a whole new level for me. And, in the midst of all this craziness, I have been in need of a little de-stressing.
Ok, a lot of de-stressing.
And in my quest for some peace and quiet, I have turned to an unexpected place.
Not to a hot bubble bath. Or to quiet pastures. Or to walks on the beach. Or even to a good jog (not that I couldn’t use one, ha!). No. In an attempt to decompress at the end of a hard day, I have turned to the wonderful world of DIY decorating blogs.
They hook me in. Like this blog, for instance. I heart it! :)
And this one, too.
What is it about a good DIY project that draws me in? Those impressive before and afters? The thrill of a run-down thrift store trash turned treasure? The motivation I sense when I read through what those who have gone before me have done all on their own?
I’m not quite sure. But they really help with my desperate need to wind down these days.
And then of course there’s etsy.
Oh, etsy. How I love thee.
Have you discovered etsy? You must. You will also be hooked.
You can find this
Really, the possibilities are endless. And when I’m needing a little escape from the crazy, I can just get lost in etsy.
Not that I actually spend any money.
It’s more like window shopping.
Or dreaming :)
I’ve also found myself scouring fun sites on organizing and building your own furniture (check out ana white… woah) and sewing your own bedding and all sorts of fun things like that.
So, as I’ve been escaping with a good
book decorating blog, it’s given me a little spark of motivation. My wheels are already spinning with the possibility! So if and when we ever move into our new house, I’m thinking of documenting the journey of our house into our home, and all the thrifty ways I will get it from point A to point B? Fun, right?
I can’t wait to join the ranks of DIY bloggers.
I know, you’re thrilled :)
And on that note, I will leave you with the DIY decorating blog of someone I actually know (imagine that!). I was delighted to see an old high school friend had done the whole DIY blog thing herself.
And I’m loving it. So great. Follow this sweet couple and their growing family as they transform from house to home: http://ourcottageonthecoast.blogspot.com/
Makes for some good reading and de-stressing! Enjoy!
