So for those of you who don’t know, I’m a pretty big fan of Pastor Brady Boyd (nope, no relation, unfortunately!) from New Life Church in Colorado Springs. I don’t live in CO, but have visited and occasionally listen to some of Pastor Brady’s messages online. God has shown me so many truths through his messages.
Well, his latest sermon series is called Live Free. Once again, I feel as though God really directed me to this teaching. I’ve definitely been struggling with some things in my life lately, mainly issues related to my parenting. I’ve felt so frustrated that I react the way I do to my children at times, and wondered why I couldn’t just be free of my old ways.
I had been down on myself in regards to all this, but really appreciated the insight from this sermon on turning our focus to the Lord. So often we focus on the struggle, not the Lord. But as Pastor Brady says in the message, “it’s not what you’ve been set free from, but who you’ve been set free to become.”
As seems to be the case many times in my spiritual journey, “new” revelations are actually not necessarily something overly profound or that I didn’t already know, but God shows them to me in a fresh light.
One of my big “aha!” moments in listening to this and listening to the Lord afterwards was that the enemy is strategic. Often times when we sense a call on our lives, he does everything he can to rob us of it, to convince us we’re not good enough, that we’d fail, that we just can’t do what we feel God is calling us to do.
This could not have been more true for me. This past month I’ve really felt God tugging on my heart regarding a specific calling (more on that in the future…just not quite yet), but then I’d struggle in my mind, hearing “You could never do that. You’re being a horrible mother to your kids. You couldn’t take anything else on.”
It’s a big deal to recognize that some part of your life is not living in the fullness God has offered you. This has been a big step on the journey to freedom for me.He has more for you. And He doesn’t hide it. It’s available. Today.
For anyone struggling to break free from some kind of bondage you’re living in, I really encourage you to listen to this message (and the ones that follow it, if you wish). It’s good stuff.
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened anymore by the yoke of slavery.”
